Sunday 7 August 2016

Wow what a difference I don't know whether to describe today as autumn or winter!  The wind kept me awake for much of the night and this morning it is still gusting, raining and cold.  We set off when the rain eased with three layers of clothes on.

Quite a few boats passed us whilst we were moored this morning so we set off in the hope we would catch one up to go through the locks with - we did but it was three guys on a hire boat.  They were going really slow - I went ahead and set the lock and they eventually came over to the lock but there was nothing they could do until it was full.  Then once we had the gates open they took a long time to untie and come into the lock.  We then realised that one guy was training the other two how to operate the boat and locks.

Thankfully they only came through two with us then turned around and went back up the flight.  One lock ahead of us was Val and Brian on Little Patience so I waved and got them to wait for us so we went through the next seven locks together - we were both heading for Gargrave.

We have reached the most northern point of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal so from now on we will be dropping back down the middle of the country.

Gargrave is a very attractive village.  The River Aire goes right through the centre of and the bridge over it forms the centre of the village.  I'm sure it looks even better on a warm sunny day!

Well they certainly picked the best day weatherwise for their wedding - the morning after and the clear up operation begins.

You wanna have a look at what's down here!

Kriss, Daniel and Ellen's Bridge - Newtons!

Mornin'

Six more locks to Gargrave!

Chatting to Brian on Little Patience!

This is made up of drawer fronts and cupboard doors!

Miles and Miles of countryside - look at that sky though - the weather is rubbish...again!

Opps another hireboat in trouble - he ended up in the bushes!

Gargrave - full of pretty cottages.

This terrace went as far as the key could see.

Earl Grey and a hamlet please!

Now that's what a I call a free range chicken!

The River Aire running through the middle of Gargrave.
