This canal reminds me of parts of the River Great Ouse where
we used to be moored as it is quite wide and you can see for miles in all directions.
After we moored we went to the Chandlers to buy some mooring
chains to save our ropes. I can’t
believe that every canal or river has different moorings and needs different
things to tie up!Lovely morning - not! This is the view from Sharpness looking back out to the Bristol Channel. |
A train - what a lovely commute - this railway line runs along the bottom of the hills with the River Severn. |
Some 70,000 boys were trained here. |
Probably not controlling the traffic these days! |
We are the sixth boat along. |
Waving goodbye to Peter, Jan and Lottie. |
A 22 arched railway bridge that used to cross the river stood here but was badly damaged one foggy night in November 1959 when a vessel collided with it. |
This and the circular tower is all that remains. |
White ducks. |
Purton Village. |
There are lots of swing bridges along this canal - I'm pleased to say that they are all manned! |
Number 22 please! |
Not sure - do I want a boat or a shed ??? |
Patch Swing Bridge in Slimbridge. |
Well that one place to keep your chopper! |
The equivalent of a lock keepers house - each of the swing bridges has a bridge keeper's cottage. |
Views across to the River Severn. |
