Tuesday 15 September 2015

We set off at about 11am having waited for the man in the dry cleaners to wash and dry our bed linen and towels - we don't have the heating on or the fire going yet so washing is proving difficult to get dry in this lovely damp weather we are having!

Leaving Stourport-on-Severn the canal meanders through the outskirts of town before reaching the lovely countryside again.  On arriving at the next couple of locks we discovered we needed a key to release the paddles.  We hadn't read anywhere that this was required and luckily, although these locks are singles we are still travelling in tandem with Rob, he bought his boat from people that had previously travelled most of the system so he had a look and sure enough he had two keys for these locks - handy bloke to know!

We then left the peaceful countryside and spotted a Tesco on the canal bank so stopped for some supplies - unfortunately when trying to moor we heard a loud groaning noise and clunk and throughout for a minute that the gearbox had gone but we had managed to pick up a lump of plastic and wool round the prop which Steve had to cut off with the scissors! The lady in the boat in front of us said unfortunately this is a sign of how the canal is in Kidderminster - and I always thought it was supposed to be a nice place?  So we got our shopping and left.

Unfortunately our vibration/knocking noise seems to be getting worse and we are worried that it may cause more damage so we tried to get hold of a boatyard further up the canal to see if they can fit us in to have look - we are still waiting for a call back so we did six locks and called it a day mooring in a village called Cookley.

Leaving Stourport-on-Severn.

Some great buildings around here.

There are some sharp bends on this canal.

Having a doze.

Also having a doze.

Through the woodlands.

Approaching Kidderminster.

Stuck round the prop.

Leaving Kidderminster.

Kidderminster Cathedral.

And again - blue sky!!!

Shame about the beaks.

Different textures on the canal bank.
