Sunday 19 July 2015

We just stayed put and chilled for most of today.  Lou, Rich and I went for a walk – Steve watched the golf!  It was a bit breezy and overcast to start off with but then the sun came out.  Lou and Rich left at about 4pm and we had to move on as we were on a 24 hour only mooring.  We also needed to recharge the batteries and heat the water.

More lovely countryside and the canal gets quite narrow here with the reeds trying to meet somewhere in the middle!  There are no locks for a about 14 miles from Wootton Rivers Bottom Lock, which we went through yesterday, and Devizes, just two swing bridges today and there was a boat coming the other way at the first one and they had already moored up and opened it so they kindly waved us through – that was handy!  We had to do the next one but that was a doddle compared to the last week!
We had been told that there are no moorings on the Kennett & Avon – they are a bit few and far between but if you don’t mind negotiating overgrown banks you can find somewhere to bang the stakes in – we have a found a nice little spot near by the Bridge Inn at Horton Road on the outskirts of Devizes.

The morning after the night before.......and they didn't even do any dancing!!

This is Narrowboat Kate - we had a debate in the dark last night - Lucy thought it was an angel on the front and I thought it was an elephant - it's a dragon!!!

Out for a walk - Lou, Rich, the Wiltshire countryside and some friendly cows!

I spent yesterday trying to get a photo of the horse in between the trees and here it is a great view from the bridge just up the canal from where we were moored!

Looking back down the canal.

The campsite Sunday morning - not many of those youngsters up yet...!

On our way again and you can see the canal getting narrow.

Goats - that's a first!

And the reeds are closing in!

The Bridge Inn at Horton Bridge....don't think we need another night out or anymore to drink though!

We went for a walk to see if there was anything else around - no just another canal side pub (which looked lovely).
You can't help but think a great idea would be to have a mobile "mini-market" van and have a few set hours in each canal side pub car park each day - I'm sure there are lots of boaters that would be ready to buy the odd pint of milk and loaf of bread!!

You cannot believe the noise these crows made for a couple of hours tonight - shame they were early risers too - Monday morning was just as noisy!
