3 June 2016

Yeah at last it feels like summer!! – we've restocked the fridge so we can stop anywhere for the next couple of nights making our way slowly back to the Llangollen.  We only had to wait for one boat to go through the lock in front of us but had to wait for two coming the other way then we were on our way again.  The one advantage of travelling a stretch of canal that you have already done is that you know the nice spots to stop.

We moored up at a great spot near a village called Church Minshull overlooking the valley with stunning views.  Set about making lunch and a boat went by – loud bomp bomp.  We noticed that we couldn’t pull the boat in tight to the bank when we moored and now we know why – there is a concrete shelf before the bank line which you hit every time the boat moves!  So we pulled it back, no better, then pulled the boat forward still no better so we abandoned the mooring and set off again.

Found another lovely spot but not such a good view only trees – it is still nice to hear the birds singing though.

The Church at Middlewich from the towpath.

and walking through the churchyard,

We have been through this lock one way now we are coming back the other way.

This fender maker gets everywhere!

That's some aerial - I wonder if he is trying to talk to Tim Peake!

Family life on the canal.

I thought cows only laid down when it was going to rain - we'll let them off, I think these are all pregnant - it must be the labour field!

These two ponies were standing on this bridge when we went under yesterday - hope they haven;t been there all night!

Our chosen spot but can you see how far from the bank we are - there's a concrete shelf under the waterline.

But what a great view!  I didn't get a photo of where we eventually moored but I will in the morning - goodnight!
