Monday 6 June 2016

We walked into Whitchurch this morning which was about a mile from the canal and glad we did - what a great little place - another one!  We were saying that when we used to think of places up North we would think of the bigger towns and cities and generally think they were places that we would not be bothered about visiting but all the small villages and towns scattered across this beautiful countryside that we have visited are hidden gems.

It is so hot today - several layers of sun cream and hats required!  We chugged for 13 miles, no locks today just three lift bridges – you have to wind them up with a windlass - a good workout for the bingo wings!

We have moored in another tributary by Ellesmere - not quite as nice as Whitchurch but pretty in its own way.
We walked for a mile following the signs to the town then came round the corner and saw this fabulous church.

The detail and brickwork is very impressive.

Once past the church we are at the top of the High Street.

Who needs a fold up bike when you can have one with an engine!

Surrounded by wonderful countryside with hills beyond as far as the eye can see.

Soaking up the sun!

ok!

I know a mum sits on her eggs but I haven't seen one sitting on her ducklings before!

Chugging though the tree then on the left is Colemere Country Park

Through some more trees and we catch a glimpse of Blake Mere on the right.

Through Ellesmere Tunnel and back out into the sunshine.

Hello Mr Robin.

Having a walk around Ellesmere.

Reminder of home.

And there we are at the end of the tributary.
