Sunday 4 October 2015

We had an early night last night so we were up bright and early.  Decided to slip lines early as it was a lovely bright sunny autumnal start to the day.

We only went through three locks and travelled eight miles today before we reached Braunston where we decided to stop as they have emptying and filling facilities and I have been doing the washing today so we have used quite a bit.
We meet a young couple that had moved onto their boat on Thursday at the locks – they are heading for London where they work and will just move up and down so they can still get to work.

When we turned left at Napton Junction we couldn’t believe how busy the canal was – this is where the Grand Union meets the Oxford Canal.  There are no locks on this stretch and it was like being out for a drive on a Sunday afternoon – we saw more boats moving in both directions than we ever have in one day since we left the Lazy Otter in April!  It is like the M25 around here – hope it quietens down tomorrow!

When we stopped for water we had to wait for two other boats to finish before we could get on the tap so we got chatting to a couple on a boat called “Y-Knot” – they have been following us from Birmingham!
Walked into Braunston – another lovely rural village.  We have been through some beautiful countryside today – big skies!

We’ve enjoyed ourselves so much that it wasn’t until this morning that I realised that we missed our one year anniversary of living on the boat – we moved on board on 30 September 2014 – where has that year gone?  No regrets...
We are heading back to London now and tomorrow will reach Gayton Junction and go through Blissworth Tunnel again which is where we joined this arm of the Grand Union back in April...

Oh what a beautiful morning...

A quick oil and water check, clean the prop and dip the diesel tank - come on get out of the engine and let's get on our way.

Look what that tree has done on our roof!

No, neither must we!

Having a lovely day in the country.

Gibraltar Bridge - but we are not sure why it is called that!

That's a big chimney you have Adamant!

In Calcutt Locks

This is the young couple that have just moved on board - they have their friends giving them a hand this weekend - they hope to be in Wembley by next weekend.

The Junction where the Grand Union meets the Oxford Canal going south - we'll do that next year.

Obviously hoping for first place in how much stuff can I get on my narrowboat roof - wonder what it is like inside!

I couldn't see what this weathervane was when I took the photo - full zoom and I only just got it through the gap in the trees and what a fine example it is.

Going under the bridle path.

Big skies.

From Aylesbury - I wonder if they know Rob!

Prince Charles out with the corgis!

Auntie! Hope you had a fab holiday.

Worzel Gummage and Aunt Sally.

Hardware store!

Dragon Fly.

The church at Braunston - nearly there.

Potty plants!

Catching a ride on our roof!

The junction where the Grand Union meets the Oxford Canal going north.

The weathervane on Braunston Church.

The village butcher.

and some lovely old cottages.

On both sides of the road.

Popped out for some soap powder and came back with two bags!!
