We went through Blissworth Tunnel again – last time I think
we passed three boats coming in the opposite direction. This time we only passed one but had a boat
in front of us and one behind us. We
still don’t remember it being this busy – there even seems to be more moored
boats.
As we came out of the tunnel it started to rain so we
thought we would stop in Stoke Bruerne until it stopped. We had a walk around and went into the Canal
Museum then headed back to the boat and as we did the heavens opened so we
decided to stay here for the night. I’m
glad we did as it rained for more of the day than not!Early morning wake up call - A43! |
Leaving Gayton Junction. |
Peaceful countryside again. |
Rebbit! |
Blissworth Mill. |
We could do with him! |
Entering Blissworth Tunnel - 3057 yards long, third longest canal tunnel in Britain. |
Ventilation shaft. |
the boat in front of us out the other end! |
And the end of the tunnel for us. |
This is a section out of the middle of the tunnel. |
The blacksmith - he is open and in there working. |
Here we go..... |
Stoke Bruerne |
Don't think this is going far. |
Boating in the rain - glad we didn't carry on as there is a flight of six locks as we leave here. |
Model barges in the museum. |
Excavating the tunnel. |
War damage - I bet it would cost more than £4,000 to put right now. |
Looking out of the museum window - we are about six boats along on the right. |
Glad we are inside looking out rather than out there! |
