Thursday 1 October 2015

It was a misty start to the day but the sun soon burnt through and we were treated to another scorcher!  We set off at 10.15am but were unfortunately following two boats with only one person on each which meant that every lock was against us and we still had 11 more to do to complete the flight that we started yesterday.

These locks are tough but having three of us on board definitely makes locking easier, one can finish off one lock whilst the other goes ahead to set the next one ready.  We eventually reached the bottom of the flight and chugged for a few miles until we reached cope locks another two very close together.  Once through we decided that we could do with some lunch so we stopped near the local supermarket and having eaten and been shopping we decided to call it a day and stay here for the night.  We are in Royal Leamington Spa.

The locks today seem to have water cascading over the tops of the gates - I wonder what they get like when it has been raining.

We cooked onboard tonight, another relaxing day had by all, although my hands know they have worked 13 tough locks!

Leaving our mooring half way down the flight.

Three makes a good team - Lou closing up, Steve on the helm and me setting the next lock.

Just hanging around.

Taking a nap.  Steve would like to join him!

Look at the water coming over the top of these gates - they are supposed to be holding it out!

This is Ugly Bridge - doesn't look that bad to me especially with it's colourful graffiti!

Lou on lock duty.

We're having a hoot!

Over one aqueduct.

Roses are red...

And over the second aqueduct.

That's a bit smoky - Maverick Water Gypsy - he said as he passed "don't buy a boat from Yorkshire!"
