Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 July 2016

Back on board after another dash back down the country to see family, celebrate Steve's mum and dad's 62nd anniversary and go to the Captain's Day at the golf club which was a great day made even better by the fact that Steve won!

It was a bit overcast as we set off at 2pm and it stayed dry all the way to Ellesmere Port but just as we arrived the heavens opened and soaked us!  As we left Chester the canal runs past the houses on the outskirts of town and very quickly we were back in the country.  On arriving at Ellesmere Port we had hoped to go through the locks down to the lower basin but by the time we got here the Waterways Museum was closed and we are not allowed to operate the three locks that take you down without the lock keeper on duty.  Luckily there was someone still in the museum so we got permission to stay on the museum moorings for the night.

Of course once we had tied up it stopped raining so we went for a walk around.  The Waterways Museum is a huge site.  There is a Holiday Inn Hotel, some newly developed apartments and a couple of shops, the rest is all part of the Museum.  Ellesmere Port town is about a 15 minute walk away. From here you can see across the Manchester Ship Canal over the Mersey to Liverpool.

On Tuesday we stayed in Ellesmere Port and took another trip to Cheshire Oaks, then had an early evening walk to see if we had missed anything yesterday.  We are right opposite Liverpool Airport but it is some distance away so the planes don’t bother us.  We are near some pretty busy roads though so I will be happy to get going again tomorrow when we will make our way back through Chester en route to Liverpool.

Thanks for your message Colin - hope all is well down at Carthagena - fingers crossed there will be space for us again this winter!

Leaving the boatyard where The June Rose spent the last few nights.

We don't think this is a well known camp site...

Yes you do seem to have a few pairs!

The Harley Showroom!

Walking the towpath.

I can see you hiding in there!

Under the M53 and the M56.

Arriving at Ellesmere Port.  We didn't realise the boat was deliberately blocking the locks until we got there!

Taking a walk and looking back up the staircase.

In the process of refurbishing the big locks.

They look so different empty.

The Tollhouse.

The first stretch of water is the Manchester Ship Canal and the second is the Mersey.

We were hoping to see a ship on the Manchester Ship Canal but we were not in luck!

Moored up in Ellesmere Port.
