Happy Birthday Andrew!

Up nice and early as we have to be at the lift half an hour before our time.  Guess what - yes it poured with rain for the half hour journey to the holding mooring - just enough to soak us!

Back up in the lift - it definitely looks more spectacular looking up from the bottom than it does looking down from the top.

Back out onto the Trent and Mersey and worked our way up to Preston Brook, the junction where we joined the Bridgewater Canal, passing through three tunnels, Barnston, Saltersford and Preston Brook.  Two of them have kinks in the middle and they are only big enough to accommodate one boat so passage is timed - going northbound you are only allowed to enter on the hour to 20 minutes past so we had a bit of waiting around.

We had a slight panic for a moment today because we thought I had miscalculated how long it would take us to get to Liverpool which would mean we would have to cruise for 12 hours a day for the next three days - thankfully, on checking it again,
I hadn't -  we still need to do quite a bit of cruising but hey the sun is supposed to shine tomorrow so we'll have a long day as I think Friday promises some more rain!
Arriving back at the lift and it has just stopped raining!

Looking down when we are half way up.

Leaving the lift.

Teddy Bears in the woods.

Into Barnston Tunnel.

Into Saltersford Tnnnel.

In the tunnel - there is a boat behind us but you can see the kink - I wonder if they started tunnelling each way and didn't meet in the middle straight!

And through Preston Brook Tunnel, past the turn off for Runcorn where we join the Bridgewater Canal.

We thought this warehouse conversion looks a bit like a prison with the interesting choice of window furniture!

That's how they talk up here!

I'm lost - I'll watch the boats go by and hopefully someone will come back for me!

They have some of the widest widebeams up here!

My nan and niece.

Nice peaceful mooring - hope that road isn't too busy in the morning!

Pink sky at night - chugger's delight - fingers crossed we will get some sunshine tomorrow.
