Saturday 16 April 2016

Woke up refreshed after a nice early night and slipped lines at 8:45am.  No sooner had we untied the ropes than the rain started!  We chugged slowly up to Marsh Lock which was displaying “self service” but as I got to the lock the lock keeper arrived so operated the lock for us.  He told us to keep an eye on things as it was likely that he would be displaying a red warning soon.

We were very cold where we had been handling the ropes.  Our gloves were soaking wet so we had to ditch them for a new pair - our fingers were freezing so as we went through Shiplake Lock we saw the Sanitary Station and decided to camp out there for a while and went down below to have some breakfast – it was so nice and warm inside that we decided to stay there for lunch as well.  We cracked on again in the afternoon when the rain stopped but again no sooner had we had left and the rain started to fall again but not as bad as it had been in the morning we decided to carry on to Sonning Lock and there was a mooring place so we decided to stop there.

The mooring is a great little spot but very muddy so now we have got muddy boots and four pairs of soaking wet gloves not to mention the jackets and trousers!

No sooner had we stopped and the sun comes out and it's a beautiful afternoon but we were chilled to the bone so we are staying put!

Leaving Henley in the rain!

The weirs are still fully open discharging water for us to fight against the flow!

Lovely lawn!

Snowdrop Island.

Looks like they are expecting a flood.

Past Val Wyatt Marina where Steve's mum and dad had their boat 40 years ago.

Don't worry honey we'll get through this lock and stop to warm up!

The fire and rescue team training in the weir - they put one man over then another in to save him...

Shame this lovely boat looks like it is unloved.

Cat on cold steel roof!

You said it!
