Sunday 17 April 2016

Happy birthday Rob!

Oh what a beautiful morning it couldn't be more different to yesterday so we decided to get on our way at 9:20am it was still very fresh and there was a frost on the roof of the boat but the sun was shining and the sky blue.

As we passed the entrance to the Kennet & Avon there was a big Tesco so we stopped to refill the fridge.

We are now on uncharted waters for us.  Through Caversham and out into the countryside and it’s beautiful, the fact that the sky is blue and the sun is shining probably helps!

We tried to stop just after Mapledurham Lock but there was no space and when we tried to pull in further down we grounded so after a fight to get off the mud (oh well we provided some entertainment for the other moored boats!) we carried on and found a lovely spot just before the newly rebuilt toll bridge at Pangbourne/Whitchurch-on-Thames and went for a walk around the village.

Look - an unusual sight - the water is calm!

That's the Oracle in Reading over there!

Entrance to the Kennet & Avon.

I'm surprised it hasn't sunk!

Black Swan.

Looks like Carolina Moon needs to loosen her ropes!

Mary Berry wouldn't be impressed!

Caversham Bridge.

One for you Sam!

Nice place for a goose nest!

Hope the newly hatched goslings learn to fly quickly!

What's that - a re-enactment of the Second World War - what did you do this  weekend!

That's where we are.

Stuck in the mud!

The church in Pangbourne.

Love this name for a widebeam!

And the church at Whitchurch-on-Thames.

Toll charges.

This will do us for the night.

Me trying to take a photo through the window of the bats flying around outside - missed!
