Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May 2016

We are staying in Thrupp today.  Lucy joined us for a couple of days.  We went for a lovely walk in the morning.  It still amazes me that we seem to have an ever growing population in Britain yet we still have miles and miles of unspoiled countryside - thank goodeness.

We took Lucy to our local (well our local for today!) then we came back and had dinner on board.

Sunday morning we slipped lines at about 10am – sun shining, bank holiday weekend – every hire boat in Oxford was on this stretch of canal!  They do provide the entertainment though.  There was a day hire boat with five young couples, two babies and a dog on board.  We went through a swing bridge and two locks with them.  I wonder whether they made it back to Thrupp to return the boat!  It didn’t seem to matter which guy was steering they still ended up hitting the bank, the bridge, the lock and of course us – Steve told them that it is a contact sport which they seemed to take literally.  It was quite funny but glad we don’t have to travel with them every day!

We moored in a placed called Gibraltar and went to the pub called The Rock of Gibraltar for dinner, only they don’t serve food on a Sunday evening so back on board for dinner!

The Boat Inn - Today's local!

Annie's Tea Room - good spot for Lou to park.

Out for a walk watching this plane doing circuits practicing taking off and landing!

Millennium Bench

Must be a stag party on the boar in front!

Steve and Lou coming through the swing bridge.

The church at Shipton looking down on the canal.

Hire boaters - chaos at the lock!

All those people and I'm the only one doing any work!

A first for us - three boats in a lock on a canal.  Spot the lads on the hire boat to the left.

And crashing their way out of the lock - I wouldn't put my arm out if I were you!

Erm - I'm sure I was told this field was full of fish!
