The lock keeper called us into Denver at 8am and advised us
to take the chimney down as he didn’t think we would get into Salters
Lode! Once in the lock we were held
there for about 15 minutes as the tide wasn’t right for the boat coming out of
Salters. 8.20am and we are on our way.
Unfortunately the chimney removal wasn’t as
easy as hoped as it had been stuck on with mastic to help protect it from the
wind through the winter so we arrived at Salters Lode with it still in place –
just got under the bridge but had to stop to give it another bang with the
hammer! Stocked up with coal and set off
at 9.30am. Today we are heading for March
where we can fill up with water, empty the loos and get rid of the rubbish.
The weather is very overcast, drizzly and cold! Through Marmont Priory lock and arrived at
March at 2.10pm. Called Stanground Lock
to book our place tomorrow – it will take us 4.5 – 5 hours from March to get
there.
Good morning Denver
Steve trying to remove the chimney
Leaving Denver
We have to get into Salters Lode on the left otherwise we are out to sea at Kings Lynn!
The new lock Gates at Salters Lode
Will that chimney go under....just but Paul (the
lock-keeper) says it won’t go under some of the bridges on the Middle Levels so
we will have to pull over and take it down.
Chimney finally removed – let’s get on our way.
Just as well we got the chimney off.....duck!
Into Marmont Priory lock.
Past the wind farm.
Arriving at March - we will clean the roof soon!
