Thursday 2 April 2015

As most of you are aware we gave up work, sold our house and moved onto The June Rose on 30 September 2014 to tour the canals and rivers of Great Britain.
This is the first Leg of our adventure:

Mission – to travel from the Lazy Otter on the River Great Ouze to Roydon Mill on the Stort Navigation.
Facts – 218 miles; 160 locks; target arrival date 24 April 2015.  Cruising hours on the clock when we left  785.6.  We will need to cruise for approx 6 hours per day.

Thursday 2 April 2015
Took down the rear canopy as we won’t get under the bridges in the Middle Levels or some on the Nene.  Left the Lazy Otter at 2.45pm in the sun shine.  Felt quite emotional leaving our mooring of the last four years and the friends that we have made there.

The flow of the river was in our favour and we made good time arriving at Denver at 7.00pm.  As the river between Denver Sluice and Salters Lode Lock is tidal you can only travel when the tide is at a certain level.  Denver is a manned lock and we have been given a time of 8am to go through tomorrow morning.

Waving goodbye to mum and dad on the bridge at the Lazy Otter.  It felt quite sad leaving so took a while before I remembered to take a photo!  Even zoomed in they are a long way away!

Goodbye to the Spot on the Old West where I fell in a couple of years ago!

At last, living the dream....... let’s drink to that!

Goodbye Phil – hope the Easter weekend is not too busy for you.

Goodbye Ely – happy memories.

Arriving at Denver – 7.00pm

First in the queue for tomorrow.
